Deciding how long mom and/or dad can live in their own home is a dilemma for working folk. You can check on them before and after work--adding to your already long day--and maybe call a couple of times while you are working, but what happens if there's an emergency? The problem is, there might be many "emergencies."
As an author and presenter on caregiving issues, I've found that many caregivers are worried about their jobs.
Community and extended family support is an absolute necessity. We need our church friends, neighbors, nieces, nephews, and community resources to allow our loved ones to stay home for as long as possible.
I always suggest making a list of all the folks who are willing to help out even once a month--it's a lot of juggling, but sometimes you need everyone you can get
